For a class report on the rainforest, young Ana had hoped to exhibit her pet iguana, Lizzie. The plan is upset when Lizzie gets sick. In an animated dream, Ana takes an imaginary journey to a tropical rainforest where she finds a cure for her sick iguana. While there she learns about the rainforest- its beauty and complex life cycle, Ana also learns about the dangers the forest faces and wakes up determined to help save the forests.

ISLAS HERMANAS
Celebrates a 13 year relationship between the communities of Bainbridge Island/Seattle and Ometepe Island in Nicaragua, directed by Mark Dworkin and Melissa Young, produced by Moving Images, US, 2000. 28 min

Shade grown organic coffee, produced on Ometepe, is imported to the U.S., and profits are returned to Nicaragua to fund clean water and school building projects. Each year Ometepe families welcome Bainbridge High students into their homes for two weeks. An enterprising third grade class on Bainbridge creates and sells calendars to support community projects on their sister island. In an era of many negative impacts of globalization, this program (28 min.) conveys a positive story of international friendship.

OUR VANISHING FORESTS

Our Vanishing Forests examines the history and policies of the U.S. Forest Service (USFS). In 1891 large tracts of U.S. forests were established as reserves in an effort to improve and protect US's native forests. In 1906 these areas were designated National Forests and the USFS was empowered to manage them for the public trust. This film shows how the USFS, once the steward of wilderness, has abandoned its conservation ethic and now favors the interests of the timber industry.
